...............The Search Continues

                          I

Mangled wreckage on icy streets

A careless truck driver’s hurry

To bring goods to market

Screeching brakes

       broken dreams

Mislaid plans

       unshuffled cards

Whirring sirens

       body trapped in mangled steel

Broken bones

spirit in balance between two worlds

Hospital corners

Who lies between these crisply ironed sheets?

Mother’s milk long since

       denied to baby’s lips

Jewels, trifles, status keep

       descendants’ pleas ignore

A stranger to those in need

       you focused on yourself

                             II

Stat!  Will life and spirit in balance fall?

Can’t make it there, but I can call

Why don’t I ache and feel the pain?

Instead I hear your life’s refrain

You didn’t allow my spirit’s stride

You seldom listened; full of pride

You cared, I know; did your best

I wish you well; eternal rest!

When the ticks of time send me your way

When the dawn of life begins new day

I’ll search for my mother

                        III

Will I find

someone kind?

I’ll look for one whose arms are made

To share a love that’s e’er displayed

A heart so close I hear the beat

Of one who wipes my hands and feet

One who puts others before herself

Who sports full heart and empty shelf

Instead of bangles, strings attached

Fear in check, heart unlatched

I miss you, Mom

I couldn’t find you here

I’ll look in heaven for one so dear
