. . . Reese Witherspoon did a commendable job portraying June Carter Cash. She didn't have June's melodic voice, but she did an amazing job of coming up with a reasonable facsimile.

...............I don't know whether or not anyone could have done the same with Johnny's, but Joaquin Phoenix was not among them. His voice was a disappointment and I would rather they had dubbed Johnny's in this instance.

. . . . . . . . He looked enough like Johnny Cash, but he sure didn't sound like him and since the music was an integral part of the script, it hurt the overall performance in my view.

. .. . . . . . For the most part the movie seemed to be a reasonably good facsimile of the real life of J.C., but the characterization of his first wife seemed trite and artificial to me. Given the fact that the script was written by a child of Johnny's second marriage, it is no surprise. She appeared to be easily dislikable, showing a lack of balance in the considerations leading to their breakup.

. . . . . . Otherwise, it was no "Ray Charles," but it was a good movie. I give it an A-, in large part because I like the Cash family songs so much, no matter who sings them .

Thumbs up!

. . . Terri liked this movie, as well. She said it's a good story, reasonably accurate relative to what I would have expected, except that "I'm suspicious of the likely bias of the child of Johnny's second marriage who wrote the script."

. . . Thumbs up for Terri.
