Dan & Terri's Movie Reviews

Away We Go
Plot: A young couple, just pregnant with lots of freedom of mobility in their employment decide to open the door to lots of possibilities in terms of where they intend to live and raise their family. A series of silly vignettes, is offered, as they explore Phoenix, Madison, WI, Miami, and Montreal as possible destinations. Starring: No names, except for Jeff Daniels in a supporting role.

I found the lead characters unsympathetic and dull. Their trips were without a benchmark for decision making and virtually incoherent in terms of purpose.

The acting was marginal. The settings were fraught with stereotypically dysfunctional, unappealing characters that may very well not have been representative of the living experience in each location. Yet, decisions were made based on them, not the place.

And, here is the worst thing I can ever say about any work of fiction. The story was b-o-r-i-n-g!

   And, the movie was dull.

I give it a C- in my grade book, which is generous, since the opening scene was borderline pornography. The couple seemed to genuinely care about each other, which is the only redeeming aspect I could find.

So, it's thumbs down on this one for me.

Terri disagreed with me and thought the movie was the sort of light-hearted movie that people are looking for during a recession. She was at least mildly entertained throughout, as she mused about the silly sorts of problems that confronted the lead characters' friends and family on their journey around North America.

Not much of consequence, or concern happend during this movie, which is what she appears to have been looking for on this night.

I usually like movies that are often dubbed Chick Flicks, such as the Jane Austin series, Little Women, Sleepless in Seattle, or You've Got Mail. If this was Chick territory, then it was so far into it that there was nothing left to entertain your date, ladies. It was definitely not a guy flick.

A Thumbs Up! from Terri, not excitedly, not marginally, but definitely up for her.
